The BBC reports the alarming news today that a third of children in England cannot swim by the age of 11 despite swimming being part of the National Curriculum.
We have always been very proud of the fact that we take this very vital life-skill seriously and that children at Hazel Hurst attend weekly swimming lessons throughout the school year. Not only is it teaching children to be safe in water, to swim and to gain more independence they are also getting great exercise and having LOTS of fun!
Swimming lessons at Hazel Hurst are included in the tuition fees - please telephone and ask for more details.
Open Morning - Saturday 23 June 2012
The school will be open for prospective parents to look around the school informally between 10.00am and 12 noon. All classes will be open and all staff attending.
So if you have concerns about class sizes, feel your child is being overlooked in a large group or not making the progress you hoped for come along and see what we can offer your child - we'd be delighted to see you. Please note, children are able to start at ANY TIME during the academic year - not just in September! We currently have a few places for each age group so please inquire.

27 February 2012
Following on from media reports today regarding the average cost of childcare in the UK we decided to do our own little cost comparison.
Apparently the average cost in the country is £97 for 25 hours care, which works out at around £3.88 per hour. The average cost per hour at Hazel Hurst for 2011/12 for a 3 year old was only £2.60 per hour which is more than 25% cheaper than the national average – pretty good value we think! This figure includes all tuition fees, books & stationery & hot & healthy lunches cooked on the premises daily.
If you’d like to see what we do – please telephone 0115 9606759 to make an appointment or visit us at our next Open Morning.

Introduction
Hazel Hurst School is a small school for boys and girls aged between 2 and 8 years situated on Westdale Lane Mapperley which is a residential area with ample street parking around the school. We are sited just off the B684 Woodborough Road - one of the main routes in and out of Nottingham City Centre - with a regular bus route on the doorstep.
The school was established in 1934 and still provides individual teaching in small classes with a happy, supportive and caring family atmosphere. We have brightly decorated, well-equipped, spacious classrooms with a large, secure outside play area providing stimulating activities to extend children's learning while allowing them to have lots of fun.
We emphasis building your child's sense of security and behavioral skills. We find that it is from these solid foundations that children learn and flourish. Whilst helping your child to learn and have fun our aims are also to help all our children to
- be happy and confident
- develop inquiring minds
- have pride in all they do
- care for, and be considerate of, the needs of others, both inside and outside the school environment
- be positive
- take full advantage of the curriculum offered to them
- behave well
We are particularly proud of the partnership between parents and staff - we feel that parents are our most valuable partner in your child's development.
If you would like to put your child on the waiting list, please email hazelhurstschool@btconnect.com or telephone the School Manager on 0115 9606759.
